My Old Man

By AllwellJuly 23, 20262 min read

I, with persistence and resilience I, who hold hope in his hand To make a reality I who challenge the world of the sea Marched through the valley And call the wind I, one man, If all of my words become old All of my tears start to fall All my bones weakened Who will I call my own? If all my kids are grown All my wives despise me. And all that remains is pain Who will I call my own? For the love I have shared And the love I can't give anymore Who will remember me? Will it be the same story? "How the mighty fall." Or will I see the need to live and breathe again? Will it be a cry for death? Or will it be a time of memories? What will it be? Now my heart is strong What do I prepare for? Good intentions don't always come with good results. Evil isn't always predictable. Who do I trust to be by my side? Money can buy people but not care It'll never be the same. I forgive the love of my life She needs someone else To give her the joy I can't profess. I forgive my kids They have their life So why worry about this old man? I forgive the world They've forgotten me Just as I forgot those that were before me. I forgive myself for being a helpless old man. And i hope they all forgive me too Let me leave in this hurt Till I can breathe again For my time has gone But I will live again In the heart of those Who remembers my name
